Error: ORA-27146: Post/wait Initialization Failed

Error Message

When trying to start the Oracle database instance as follows:

SVRMGR> startup nomount pfile=//init.ora

This error occurs:

ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed

Cause

Insufficient memory allocated in kernel for semaphores.

Solution or Workaround

Increase semaphore memory allocation. On Solaris, for example, increase SEMMSL.

Please refer to your Oracle installation guide for information on appropriate kernel memory subsystem settings.
