ERROR

Image theme has error. Unable to open image.

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

Projects created in ArcView 3.2 that contain references to .img files do not open correctly in ArcView 3.2a. The project repair window appears asking for the location of the images. When they are located, the project opens with the following error:

"Image theme has error. Unable to open image."

Cause

The objects written into the project file by the IMAGINE extension were changed from ArcView 3.2 to ArcView 3.2a.

Solution or Workaround

Although unsupported, it is possible to change the object references in the project file to allow the project to open without errors.

  1. Make a backup copy of the .apr file.
  2. Open the .apr file in a text editor such as WordPad or NotePad.
  3. Search for ISrc and replace all instances with ImgDLL.
  4. Save the file.
  5. Open the project in ArcView.

    Note:
The view background may appear black. Clicking the Zoom to Full Extent button will change it back to white.
