Frequently asked question

Can I use the GeocodingIndexObject and GeocodingIndexClassExtension classes to automate my custom geocoding indexes?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

No. The GeocodingIndexObject and GeocodingIndexClassExtension classes were developed specifically to work with ESRI’s implementation of the Soundex function. You can, however, use these classes as guides for creating you own custom object class and object class extension that use your geocoding indexing scheme. Your custom geocoding index object must support the ISupportErrorInfo interface, and your custom object class extension must support the IRelatedObjectClassEvents and ISupportErrorInfo interfaces. Each of your custom classes can additionally support whichever interfaces are necessary to implement automatic geocoding index maintenance for your own geocoding indexing scheme.
