Frequently asked question

Can I build a network with feature classes that contain multipart features?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

Yes. however, while able to perform tracing operations with the multipart features, the editing or creation of multipart features is not supported by networks.

To convert multipart features into valid network features with ArcGIS 8.3 and earlier, see the Desktop Help > Geodatabases > Editing your geodatabase > Repairing network topology. With ArcGIS 9.0 and later, see the Desktop Help > Editing in ArcMap > Editing geometric networks > Repairing network connectivity.

If any of the multipart features are M or Z aware, you cannot modify these values, you must set them before building the network. Once done, a feature's Z or M value can be modified in one of two ways:

· Convert the feature to valid network feature.

· Drop the network to edit the feature as a simple feature.
