When using the Change Layout tool to select a template, an empty frame appears in the map document

While using the Change Layout tool on an existing Map document, and select a template, an empty frame appears in the new layout.

Cause

The empty frame is there because there may have been a Word document inserted as an object in the template at that location.

Solution or Workaround

Delete the empty frame and reinsert the Word document.
