PROBLEM

ArcGIS displays text from CAD drawings differently than the original CAD software

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

The font, size, and extent of CAD drawing text is different in ArcMap than what the original CAD drawing software displays.

Cause

ArcGIS uses the operating system's default font when displaying CAD drawing text. Specific display settings saved by the original CAD software package are not used.

Solution or Workaround

Use CAD annotation feature classes in ArcGIS to customize the appearance of CAD text. You can change the font, color, and style of CAD annotation features in the Fonts panel of the Layer Properties sheet. In some cases you may also need to obtain the TrueType version of a CAD font that was used in the original drawing in order to recreate the appearance.
