Why doesn't a map's thumbnail appear in its metadata?

Answer

Thumbnails for all items except maps are stored in the item's metadata. Thumbnails for maps are stored in the document or template file instead. Therefore, the map's thumbnail can't be displayed in the Metadata tab.
