After updating metadata, why does the size of my personal geodatabase increase?

Answer

When updating metadata in a geodatabase, the item's original metadata record is deleted and a new one is added. To purge the deleted records from the file, right-click the personal geodatabase in ArcCatalog and click Compact Database.
