Frequently asked question

My data has changed, why hasn't the metadata been updated correctly?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

ArcCatalog has some problems automatically updating lists of repeating metadata elements when some elements in the original list have been removed.

For example, if an attribute is deleted, when the metadata is automatically updated the list of attributes will be incorrect. Some attribute descriptions and domain information may no longer be associated with the correct attribute. Similar problems will occur after removing feature classes from a coverage or a geodatabase feature dataset, after adding or removing relationship classes, and after modifying subtypes and domain information in a geodatabase.

Some manual intervention is required to resolve this problem. Use the metadata editor to copy the correct information to the appropriate attribute, then, delete the erroneous information.
