Linked Word document doesn't update

Description

You used the ArcMap Insert Menu Object dialog to link to a Word document. Then you saved the map document and closed ArcMap. After making changes to the linked Word document, you reopen your saved map document, but the linked document does not reflect your changes.

Cause

ArcMap doesn’t automatically update the cached representation when documents are loaded.

Solution or Workaround

1. Open the map document.
   
2. Using the Select Elements tool, double-click the linked Word document to start the Microsoft Word application. This will refresh the cached representation.
