ArcMap process left running when exiting ArcMap after using the MXD Doctor

Description

An ArcMap process may be left running after using the MXD Doctor utility to retrieve valid objects from a corrupt ArcMap document.

Cause

Some objects in the corrupt ArcMap document haven't been released from memory correctly.

Solution or Workaround

After using the MXD Doctor and exiting ArcMap:

1. Run the Windows Task Manager and select the Processes tab.
2. See if ArcMap.exe is in the list of processes. If you no longer have a session running, and ArcMap.exe still shows up in the processes list, stop it by selecting it and clicking End Process.
