FAQ: Why Does My Selection Set Disappear after I Close and Re-Open My OLE DB Table or Text

Each time a nonOID table (no ObjectID field),, such as an OLE DB table or text file, is opened in ArcMap, a new locally cached version of the table is created. Any selection set defined on these tables, will therefore be lost when the table window is closed and re-opened. The new table will know nothing about selections sets defined on the old table.
