Frequently asked question

How can custom TrueType fonts be used in ArcIMS on Linux or UNIX?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

The font paths are hard-coded in Linux or UNIX versions of the ArcIMS Spatial Server. Place the font in the path corresponding to your operating system:

Solaris: "/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType"

AIX: "/usr/lpp/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType"

HP: "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/ms.st/typefaces"

Linux: "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType"

SGI: "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1"

The FontInfo utility can be used to determine the fonts and corresponding font names accessible by the ArcIMS spatial server. It can be downloaded from FontInfo Utility downloads.

Note:
Fonts placed in any other directory will not be available to the ArcIMS Spatial Server.

Note:
If ArcIMS does not recognize the font, type 'xset fp rehash' at the command prompt to rebuild the font list. Restart the ArcIMS daemons and see if the font is recognized.
