Problem: ArcInfo starts slowly

Description

When starting Arcinfo, Workstation or Desktop does not load for two or more minutes.

Cause

Incorrect hostname in <install drive>:\arcexe80\sysgen\worklicenseserver.txt and <install drive>:\arcexe80\sysgen\ desklicenseserver.txt.

AND

Incorrect hostname in the Windows Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ESRI\ARCINFO\Desktop\80\LICENSE_SERVER: REG_SZ variable and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ESRI\ARCINFO\Workstation\80\LICENSE_SERVER\REG_SZ variable.

Solution or Workaround

  1. Correct the hostname in \arcexe80\sysgen\worklicenseserver.txt and \arcexe80\sysgen\desklicenseserver.txt;
    @<incorrecthostname> should be changed to @<correcthostname>.
  2. Using the registry editor, correct the hostname in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ESRI\ARCINFO\Desktop\80\LICENSE_SERVER: REG_SZ variable and the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ESRI\Arcinfo\Workstaion\80\LICENSE_SERVER: REG_SZ variable.

    Note:
    Do not remove the @ symbol in front of the hostname on any of the files.


    Warning:
    The solution involves modifying the Windows registry. Be careful not to modify anything in the registry except for the entires indicated in the solution. You can seriously compromise the integrity of your operating system by modifying the wrong entries.
