Instructions provided describe how to get a list of environment variables and their values on a specific computer. Several ESRI software packages use environment variables to define directories used for internal functions and processes. For example, ArcView uses the HOME variable, as the default working directory, to write temporary files during editing operations. If the HOME variable is not set, the TEMP directory is used.
Open a Command Prompt window. Type “Set” at the DOS prompt and press the Enter key. A list of environment variables and their defined directory paths is displayed.
