Error in reading STA table

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

Different operations in Spatial Analyst or 3D Analyst result in the following error:

Error in Reading STA table

Cause

The ArcInfo workspace in the project's working directory is corrupted and thus ArcView cannot write grids.
An ArcInfo workspace is a directory that contains coverages, grids, or TINs.
ArcView uses your working directory to hold temporary data sets, such as temporary grids generated by editing or analysis tasks.

Solution or Workaround

  1. Start ArcView, if it is not running already.
  2. Open the project (.apr) where this error is occurring and activate the Project window.
  3. Select Properties from the Project menu.
  4. Get the path specified in the Work Directory field in the Project Properties dialog box. This field may actually use a path defined by an environment variable, such as $HOME.

    A. Open a new view.
    B. Select Add Theme from the View menu.
    C. Replace the path in the Directory field with the environment variable, for example $HOME
    D. Press the Enter key.

The Directory field will now show the actual path.

  5. Clean the workspace.

Delete all folders named after a coverage and/or grid, as well as the info folder.

    Note:
If you are unsure about deleting a folder, copy it to another location before you delete it.
