Configure ArcInfo for Windows NT to access a license manager on the network

Summary

ArcInfo can check out a license from a license manager running on an NT or UNIX system located on the local network.

Procedure

 
  1. Obtain the hostname of the computer running the license manager.
     
    Type "hostname" at a DOS or UNIX prompt to return the hostname of the computer.
  2. Obtain the TCP/IP port number used by the license manager.
     
    Windows:
    For ArcInfo 7.1x, open c:\arcexe72\sysgen\license.dat. The port number is the last number in the SERVER line. This number is usually 1701 or 27005.

    For ArcInfo 7.2x and 8.0x, open c:\Program Files\ESRI\License\ARCINFO.lic. The port number is the last number in the SERVER line. This number is usually 27005.

    UNIX:
    Open the $ARCHOME/sysgen/license.dat file in a text viewer or editor. The TCP/IP port used by the license manager is the last number in the SERVER line. This number is usually 1701 or 27005.
  3. Add the variable ESRI_LICENSE_FILE to the system variables of the client. The value for the variable will be

    <TCP/IP port number>@<hostname of license manager>
