Problem: PC ARC/INFO: Problems digitizing in Arceditw

Solution or Workaround

Description

Digitizing in DOS works fine, and so does CON-DIG in Windows; however, digitizing in ARCEDITW does not work.

Cause

Certain types of hardware work fine in Windows, but others do not.

Solution

We have two possibilities. One, it could be related to the kind of UART used. There are some updated drivers available from Microsoft that may address this issue with Windows for Workgroups 3.11. See the link below.

A second possibility may be the type of cabling used. Follow this procedure:

If you have a break-out-box that will allow you set your own pin-outs you might try the following configuration:

     5/7 3 2 Digitizer
| | |
| | |
| | |
5 4 3 2 1
|-------------- DB 9 connector
|----| |
9 8 7 6 Serial Port

In other words, pins 2 & 3 go through. Pin 5 will go through to 5 (9 pin connector) or 7 (25 pin connector) Pins 4 & 6 are wired together so that they loop back to the serial port. Pins 7 & 8 are also wired together to get a loop back.
