How To: Configure Windows NT system to run PC ARC/INFO or DAK and ArcInfo

Procedure

Steps to configure system to run PC ARC/INFO and ArcInfo on the same Windows NT Platform.

If you have already installed both software packages on your system, they may not run because the PATH statement settings under SYSTEM ENVIRONMENT variables for both applications conflict with each other in the execution of similar commands. You cannot run both packages simultaneously on the same machine.

Solution:

1. To avoid, or to resolve this conflict, remove the PATH variables for both packages from the system environment setting and ADD the PATH variables under separate user environment settings.

A) Click on Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > User Manager
B) From the User menu, click on New User.
C) Create a user for PC ARC/INFO
D) Create a second user for ArcInfo

Note: You must have administrator privileges to accomplish this task.

2. Install PC ARC/INFO and ArcInfo following appropriate procedures.

3. Edit your Path environment variable.
A) Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
B) Double-click on System.
C) Under the Environment tab, remove PC ARC/INFO and ArcInfo references from 'Path'. For example, if the Path looks like this:

	Path   C:\WINNT35;....;C:\ARCEXE\CMD;C:\arcexe71\bin;C:\arcexe71\lib.....  

After changes, the PATH should look like this:

 	Path   C:\WINNT35;...  

D) Click Apply to save changes

Warning:
Do not delete the entire Path statement.

Note: You must have administrator privileges to accomplish this task.

3. Log on as the PC ARC/INFO user:

A) Open the System control panel.
B) Under Environment add the following Path variable:

Path	C:\ARCEXE\CMD  

C) Click Apply to save changes.

4. Log on as the ARC/INFO USER:
A) Go to the System control panel.
B) Under Environment add the following Path variable:

Path	C:\arcexe71\bin;C:\arcexe71\lib  

C) Click Apply to save changes.

5. Reboot your system
