What is the cause of the error: "lmgrd is not running: Invalid return data from
license server (-12,122)"?

Answer:

The client cannot resolve the hostname of the license server into an IP
address, that is the client cannot successfully ping the hostname of the
license server.

If the IP address of the server is static, map the server's hostname and IP
address in the C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts file. Instructions for
mapping an IP address to a hostname are in the Hosts file.

If the IP address is obtained from a DHCP server, do not edit the
C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts file. On a domain with a DHCP server, the
Domain Name Service (DNS) provides hostname to IP address translations. In
this case you should contact the network administrator to resolve the hostname to IP address mapping problem.

Notes:

The client's ability to ping the license manager's IP address is not sufficient. The client must be able to ping the license manager's hostname.
