[ESRI-L] MySQL database table relate in ArcGIS Desktop 9.3

2012-02-21 01:46:00.0

Hi,

I successfully imported and viewed a table from a MySQL database in ArcMap
9.3.1. I can join it to shapefiles no problem. However, when I try to
relate it to a shapefile, the relate option is greyed out (when the MySQL
table owns the relate) and I cannot perform the relate.
I can view the contents of the table just fine as well. I'm wondering if
this is a privileges or permission's issue? I only have select privileges
to the MySQL database table. Should I have full write privileges for the
relate to work?
Is there some other reason the relate will not work? One of my text fields
is longer than 255 characters, but this does not cause a problem in the
join or in viewing the table.

When I export the MySQL table to a .dbf table the relate works perfectly.
When I export it to a file geodatabase, the relate works (the relate is not
greyed out) but I cannnot view the contents of the fields in the table.
However, I can see the field names, and the text field with longer than 255
characters does not show up. I think this is a separate issue, but have
included it in this email in case it may be relevant.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank-you,

Nat
