At this point the ArcGIS License Manager is installed. If ArcGIS Desktop needs to be installed, please proceed with the remainder of this article.

  2. REMOVE PREVIOUS SOFTWARE VERSIONS

Removing the program does not remove map data.

Go to the machine where ArcGIS Desktop is going to be installed and follow these steps to remove previous versions of ArcGIS software:

    D. During the installation it asks to browse for the ArcGIS License Manager.
If the ArcGIS License Manager is installed on the same machine that ArcGIS Desktop is being installed, enter the correlating machine name.
If the machine name is unknown, go to Start > Run and type 'cmd'. In the console window that opens type 'hostname' and press Enter. This returns the machine name.

If installing Desktop on a different machine than where the ArcGIS License Manager is installed, enter the machine name where the ArcGIS License Manager was installed.
    E. Complete the installation.

To verify the software is installed and running properly, go to Start > Programs > ArcGIS. Click on the shortcut for ArcMap. The application should open. If there are licensing errors, see the link in Related Information for troubleshooting tips.
