Description

When using a shapefile exported from Pathfinder Office, there is no spatial reference information associated with the file, even if a projection was defined in Pathfinder Office.

Cause

Pathfinder office does not associate a .prj file to the shapefile upon export.

Solution or Workaround

Define the projection of the shapefile in ArcMap to match the projection of the data in Pathfinder Office.

I would like to see a new article that discusses the topic outlined below.

Found a solution, not just a workaround. In Pathfinder, a path to ArcMap's projection files needs to be established in the Export options in order export an ESRI shapefile with a .prj file. Open Pathfinder and go to Utilities>Export(make sure ESRI Shapefile Setup is selected)>Properties>Coordinate System. Under Projection File, browse to the desired projection files, i.e. ProgramFiles\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\Coordinate Systems and click OK. It will use chosen .prj file on every export.
