The article needs to be updated.
What should the ArcHome Variable look like in a typical installation? This does not give an example of what to change the variable too

Great article! It helped a lot!
Yeah, these instruciton arent very clear but the additional step is outlined in the parent page for these XP-specific instructions (http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/17354) "Set the following variables as both System and User Variables: HOMEDRIVE C: HOMEPATH C:\"
So: When in 'Environment Variable', click 'New' under the 'User Variables' window and enter HOMEDRIVE as the variable name, and C: as the Variable value. Repeat process for HOMEPATH in the user variables. Repeat for both in the System variable window. It worked for me.
