Question
How can I recover data that I deleted accidentally? Is there an undo/redo option in ArcCatalog?
Answer
There is no undo/redo capability to recover data after you delete it. Be extremely cautious and pay attention to warning messages before deleting data. We strongly recommend backing up data frequently.
ArcCatalog is not a substitute for Windows Explorer for file management. It shows only supported GIS data and filters out other files. This may some times lead you to believe a particular folder is empty when in fact that folder may contain other non-GIS files. Deleting such folders within ArcCatalog may cause loss of important files. In general, use ArcCatalog to manage GIS data and use Windows Explorer for general file management.

This is a really lame excuse for a crappy product. Why include the delete function if it's not possible to undo or recover a file or data set. ESRI continually produces a broken, unfinished product.
