ArcGIS 10.0 SP2 (Desktop, Engine, Server) Data Frame Reference Scale Patch

Published: August 2, 2011

Summary

This patch addresses an issue in which ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Engine, and ArcGIS Server applications do not properly preserve the reference scale of a data frame when labeling is enabled. Esri recommends that all users of labeling and reference scales in ArcGIS Desktop applications (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcReader), ArcGIS Engine, or ArcGIS Server apply this patch.

Description

Esri® announces the ArcGIS 10.0 SP2 (Desktop, Engine, Server) Data Frame Reference Scale Patch. This patch addresses an issue in which ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Engine, and ArcGIS Server applications do not properly preserve the reference scale of a data frame when labeling is enabled. It deals specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.

Issues Addressed with this Patch

  • NIM069245 - Reference scale is cleared out when zooming in and out with certain layers after installing ArcGIS 10 Service Pack 2.

  • Description: When labeling a data frame with a reference scale in ArcGIS Desktop applications (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcReader), ArcGIS Engine, or ArcGIS Server, the symbolized size of the features being labeled must be calculated based on that reference scale. In some situations, this size calculation inadvertently clears the reference scale after the first draw of the map. Subsequent redraws of the map no longer use a reference scale. This patch ensures the size calculations are performed correctly and that the reference scale is not cleared.
