Description

Esri® announces the ArcGIS 9.3.1 SP2 QIP (Desktop, Engine, Server) Windows 2008 MrSID Patch. This patch addresses an issue with the MrSID raster format, which can cause the application to crash in the Windows 2008 R2 operating system. It deals specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.

Issues Addressed with this Patch

  • NIM066937 - ArcMap crashes when loading any SID image (9.3.1 SP2+QIP on Windows 2008 R2 only).
    • Description: Using MrSID raster data in the Windows 2008 R2 operating system can cause the application to crash.
  • NIM067227 - ArcMap crashes when removing a JPEG 2000 image from the Table of Contents, or when closing ArcMap, if the map contains a JPEG 2000.
    • Description: Removing JPEG 2000 raster format data from the ArcMap table of contents can cause the application to crash.

Installing this Patch on Windows

Installation Notes:

ArcGIS (Desktop, Engine, Server) 9.3.1 Service Pack 2 Quality Improvement Patch must be installed before you can install this patch.

  1. Download the appropriate file to a location other than your ArcGIS installation location.

    ArcGIS (Desktop, Engine, Server) Gis931SP2QIP-DTES-W2k8MrSID-Patch.exe

  2. Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS installation location.
  3. For ArcGIS Server GIS Services Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Stop the ArcGIS Server Object Manager and ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor services.
    For ArcGIS Server Java Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Stop the ArcGIS Server Object Manager; ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor and ArcGIS Server Manager services.
  4. Double-click Gis931SP2QIP-DTES-W2k8MrSID-Patch.exe to start the install process.

    NOTE: If double clicking on the EXE file does not start the Patch installation, you can start the Patch installation manually by using the following command:
    • msiexec.exe /p [location of Patch]\Gis931SP2QIP-DTES-W2k8MrSID-Patch.exe
  5. When Setup starts, follow the instructions on your screen.
  6. For For ArcGIS Server GIS Services Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Start the ArcGIS Server Object Manager and ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor services.
    For ArcGIS Server Java Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Start the ArcGIS Server Object Manager; ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor and ArcGIS Server Manager services.
