  1. [map design] The arrangement of elements on a map, possibly including a title, legend, north arrow, scale bar, and geographic data.
  2. [ESRI software] In ArcGIS, a presentation document incorporating maps, charts, tables, text, and images.
  3. [ESRI software] In ArcView 3.x, one of the five types of documents that can be contained within a project file. A layout is used to prepare hard copy maps. It can be composed of views, tables, charts, imported graphics, and graphic primitives and can also contain cartographic elements such as scale bars and north arrows.
