  1. [analysis/geoprocessing] In geoprocessing, a topological overlay that computes the geometric intersection of two datasets. The output dataset preserves all the features of the first dataset plus those portions of the second (polygon) dataset that overlap the first. For example, a road passing through two counties would be split into two arc features, each with the attributes of the road and the county it passes through.
