  1. [standards] Acronym for Digital Geographic Information Exchange Standard. A standard for spatial data transfer among nations, data producers, and data users. The Digital Geographic Information Working Group (DGIWG) developed the standard to support interoperability within and between nations and share the burden of digital data production. The standard addresses the exchange of raster, matrix, and vector data (and associated text) and a range of levels of topological structures.
