UNIX

Install the new License Manager for the appropriate platform by first uncompressing one of the following tar files:

Extract the files contained in the uncompressed tar file. The untarred files will automatically go into a “sysgen” folder. Once the above steps have been done, follow the steps below to get a license and start the license service:

  1. From the sysgen folder, run lmutil lmhostid to get your machine's FLEXlm HostID.
    ./lmutil lmhostid
The HostID and Hostname are required to get a license file from ESRI Customer Service.
  2. Request a license file from ESRI Customer Service.
  3. Save the license file to disk as "license.dat".
  4. Open license.dat in a text editor, such as vi, and verify that the hostname is correct on the SERVER line. Make sure the license.dat file has the correct permissions.
  5. Copy license.dat into the appropriate 9.x $sysgen directory.
    % cp license.dat $sysgen
  6. Change directories to your $sysgen directory.
    % cd sysgen
  7. Execute lmgrd to start the License Manager at the command prompt. Redirect the output to your local console or to a file.
    Output to the local console:
    % ./lmgrd -c license.dat > /dev/console &
  8. Verify that License Manager has started and is running properly by executing lmutil lmstat at the command prompt.
    % ./lmutil lmstat -a -c license.dat
