A data model for the conservation of biodiversity is under development in cooperation with NatureServe, formerly known as ABI. NatureServe is affiliated with the Nature Conservancy.

This modeling process involves the creation of a GIS model to support the wealth of information that has already been documented and classified. A number of conservation organizations have contributed to the process. A conceptual model is being designed to serve as a framework for publishing conservation data from multiple organizations.
