This initial data model for Historic Preservation and Archaeology is in its early stages of development. The content of this model is unique because it combines both the preservation of historic buildings/sites and archaeological preservation in a single data model. Lyna Wiggins of Rutgers University and the New Jersey Office of Historic Preservation was instrumental in developing this approach.
A user group is being defined and beginning discussion is in progress with the Archaeological Special Interest Group. The next steps are to identify a starting point and key members for a data model committee, to initiate discussion in the Archaeology and Preservation communities and then move towards the creation of an Archaeological and Historic Preservation Data Model project.
