Spatial enabling business information provides users in the Exploration and Production Industry the ability to display and query data using map based user interfaces that are directly associated with business data. The E&P Industry has developed and widely implemented a standard data model since 1991. In 2002 an Industry sponsored project developed a methodology to link the PPDM relational database with the spatial functionality in the ESRI Geodatabase.

Linking relational data from the PPDM data model with a GIS gives geoscientists the ability to display PPDM business objects on a map quickly and efficiently. This enables the rapid retrieval of information for wells, well tests, land parcels, facilities, seismic lines, and other features. Methodology and scripts have been created to maintain the Geodatabase and dynamically generate linear referenced events along a well path.

The documentation is available to the public at the PPDM Spatial Project Site. Please go to PPDM Lite 1.0 for more information on how to spatially enable PPDM. A Geodatabase instantiation can be found at PPDM LITE.

Downloads - Case Studies

These Case Studies are a good starting point to learn about best practices for this discipline. These project examples include sample geodatabases, map documents, and documentation.

Downloads - Design Templates

The Design Templates are the result of the community-based design process. The general concepts and terms for this discipline are described here. Tools and examples to create a template data model are also included for advanced users.
