Introduction

ESRI® is pleased to announce the ArcGIS Desktop 9.0 ArcMap Slow Page and Print Setup Dialog Patch. This Patch addresses an issue with the ArcMap Page and Print Setup dialog being slow to open or unresponsive. It deals specifically with the issue listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.

We recommend that all ArcGIS 9.0 customers who have experienced slow response times when opening or interacting with the Page and Print Setup dialog download and install this patch on all machines with ArcGIS Desktop 9.0 (ArcInfo, ArcEditor, or ArcView) installed. This patch only modifies software that is part of the ArcGIS Desktop installation. It does not affect the print server or the printer configuration on individual machines.

Issues Addressed with this Patch


    CQ00242230 - Page and Print Setup dialog opens slowly, or may cause ArcMap to crash.
    The main issue is:

      Some network printer configurations can cause the ArcMap 9.0 Page and Print Setup dialog to appear slow or unresponsive, sometimes taking from 30 seconds to three minutes to open. In severe cases, the ArcMap application may appear frozen or crash when the Page and Print Setup or Print dialogs are opened.

      This problem has been reported with machine configurations that include a Novell Netware or NDPS network printer queue. Alternatively, machines that have a Microsoft Windows network printer installed may experience this problem when the machine is disconnected from the network or when the network printer goes off-line.

      This patch alters the behavior of ArcMap's Page and Print Setup and Print dialogs to prevent these symptoms.
