Introduction

Esri® announces the ArcGIS 10.0 SP4 (Desktop, Engine, Server) Spatial Join Tool Patch. This patch addresses several issues with the Spatial Join tool. It deals specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.

Issues Addressed with this Patch


  • NIM079126 - The Spatial Join tool produces NULL results for some fields/some features on ArcGIS 10 SP4.


  • NIM068881 - ArcMap stops working when using the spatial Join tool in a Windows 7 environment.


  • NIM079064 - Geoprocessing -Spatial Join in a model crashes ArcMap and creates an empty output.


  • Description: This patch fixes errors that may occur when executing the Spatial Join tool. These errors may include:

    • Executing the tool resulting in transferred field values from the join features to be all null.
    • ArcMap crashing when Spatial Join is run in Model Builder.
    • ArcMap freezing with certain datasets.

Installing this Patch on Windows


Installation Notes:

System Administrators - A technical paper is available that discusses the enterprise deployment of ArcGIS 10 setups using Microsoft® Systems Management Server (SMS) and Group Policy, including additional system requirements, suggestions, known issues, and Microsoft Software Installation (MSI) command line parameters. Installation Steps:

ArcGIS 10 Service Pack 4 Desktop, Engine, or Server must be installed before you can install this patch.

  1. Download the appropriate file to a location other than your ArcGIS installation location.

  2. ArcGIS Desktop Gis10sp4-DT-SJT-Patch.msp
     
    ArcGIS Engine Gis10sp4-E-SJT-Patch.msp
     
    ArcGIS Server - Gis Services Gis10sp4-SGIS-SJT-Patch.msp
     
    ArcGIS Server Java Gis10sp4-SJ-SJT-Patch.msp

  3. Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS installation location.


  4. For ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Stop the ArcGIS Server Object Manager and ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor services.

    For ArcGIS Server Java Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Stop the ArcGIS Server Object Manager; ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor and ArcGIS Server Manager services.


  5. Double-click Gis10sp4-<Product>-SJT-Patch.msp to start the install process.

    NOTE: If double clicking on the MSP file does not start the Patch installation, you can start the Patch installation manually by using the following command:

    msiexec.exe /p [location of Patch]\Gis10sp4-<Product>-SJT-Patch.msp


  6. When Setup starts, follow the instructions on your screen. At the end of the installation, follow the instructions to run the GIS Server Post Install.


  7. For ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Start the ArcGIS Server Object Manager and ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor services.

    For ArcGIS Server Java Only: Open the Services Management Console> Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Start the ArcGIS Server Object Manager; ArcGIS Server SOC Monitor and ArcGIS Server Manager services.


Installing this Patch on Linux and Solaris


Complete the following install steps as the ArcGIS Install owner. The Install owner is the owner of the arcgis folder.

ArcGIS 10.0 Service Pack 4 Engine or Server must be installed before you can install this Patch.

  1. Download the appropriate file to a location other than your ArcGIS installation location.


    ArcGIS Engine for Linux Gis10sp4-E-SJT-Patch-linux.tar
     
    ArcGIS Engine for Solaris Gis10sp4-E-SJT-Patch-slrs.tar
     
    ArcGIS Server for Linux Gis10sp4-S-SJT-Patch-linux.tar
     
    ArcGIS Server for Solaris Gis10sp4-S-SJT-Patch-slrs.tar


  2. Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS installation location, and that no one is using ArcGIS.


  3. For ArcGIS Server only: stop the ArcGIS server by typing:

    % arcgis/scripts/stopserver


  4. Extract the specified tar file by typing:

    % tar -xvf Gis10sp4-<Product>-SJT-Patch-<Platform>.tar


  5. Start the installation by typing:

    % ./applypatch

    This will start the dialog for the menu-driven installation procedure. Default selections are noted in parentheses ( ). To quit the installation procedure, type 'q' at any time.


  6. For ArcGIS Server only: start the ArcGIS Server by typing:

    % arcgis/scripts/startserver
