Overwriting an ArcGIS Online hosted service returns the following warning message, "Unable to overwrite service - Problem retrieving configuration from the server", when listing services available from My Content, if the first hosted service using alphabetical order in My Content does not have a service definition present.

For an improved experience, please use the latest version of ArcGIS Pro to overwrite web layers.

Workaround

Continue the overwrite workflow after receiving the warning message as the warning does not affect the final overwriting of services.
