Installing the Service Pack

Installation Notes

It is important to keep the all versions of ArcGIS products installed on a machine in sync to avoid any software conflicts.

To find out what products are currently installed on your windows machine, download the ServicePackFinder90.exe utility and run it from your local machine. This utility provides a report detailing which ArcGIS products are currently installed on your machine. This will help determine which product Service Packs you should install on your machine. The report also details which service packs have been installed. The report is displayed when the utility is run and a servicepack.txt log file is created in your temp folder. The Service Pack Finder utility searches for the following ArcGIS products.

  • ArcGIS Desktop (ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo) Includes the ArcReader fixes for the ArcReader FEATURE.
  • ArcGIS Desktop Developer Kit
  • ArcGIS Engine Runtime
  • ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit
  • ArcGIS Server
  • ArcGIS Server .NET ADF
  • ArcGIS Server Java ADF
  • ArcGIS Tutorial Data
  • ArcReader standalone
  • ArcIMS
  • ArcSDE

NOTE (ArcGIS and ArcSDE users): If you use ArcGIS 9.0 or ArcSDE 9.0, you must also install ArcGIS 9.0 Service Pack 3 or ArcSDE 9.0 Service Pack 3. For example, if you use ArcIMS 9.0 and ArcGIS 9.0 Desktop, install both ArcIMS 9.0 Service Pack 3 and ArcGIS 9.0 Desktop Service Pack 3. Since ArcIMS 9.0, ArcSDE 9.0 and the ArcGIS 9.0 products share common DLLs, it is important to keep the software release versions in sync to avoid any software conflicts.

NOTE (ArcGIS Server users): If you have ArcGIS Server 9.0 and any other ArcGIS product installed on your machine, we recommend that you install the ArcGIS 9.0 Server Service Pack before installing the remaining Service Packs. Since ArcGIS Server and the ArcGIS 9.0 products share common DLLs, it is important to keep the software release versions in sync to avoid any software conflicts.

Installation Steps for Windows -

ArcIMS 9.0 must be installed before you can install this Service Pack. If you have not yet applied previous service packs, you do not have to do so before installing Service Pack 3 as it is cumulative and contains all fixes from the pervious service packs. If you already have a previous service pack installed, you may apply Service Pack 3 over it to update the required files.

  1. Download ArcIMS90sp3.msp.  (73 MB).
  2. From your Services control panel, stop the ArcIMS Tasker, ArcIMS Monitor, and ArcIMS Application Server (in that order).
  3. Double-click the ArcIMS90sp3.msp to start the install process. This executable will take some time to examine your current ArcIMS install during the initializing stage. If double clicking on the MSP file does not start the Service Pack installation, you can run the Service Pack manually by using the following command:

    msiexec.exe /p [location of service pack]\ArcIMS90sp3.msp REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=omus

  4. When Setup starts, follow the instructions on your screen.
  5. After the Setup has finished, run the ArcIMS Post Installation. The post installation setup can be run from Start > Programs > ArcGIS > ArcIMS > ArcIMS Post Installation.
    •
    • TOMCAT USERS ONLY: Stop the Tomcat service from your Services control panel then navigate to <Tomcat Installation Directory>\webapps. If any of the following directories and files exist, please cut and paste them to a back-up location prior to running the Post Install. These must be removed from the webapps directory. Remember to replace any customized files after running the post-install with the backed-up/original files. (e.g. the aimsmeta.properties, esriadmin.properties, Esrimap_prop files.)

Installation Steps for HP HP-UX and IBM AIX -

ArcGIS 9.0 must be installed before you can install this Service Pack. If you have not yet applied previous service packs, you do not have to do so before installing Service Pack 3 as it is cumulative and contains all fixes from the pervious service packs. If you already have a previous service pack installed, you may apply Service Pack 3 over it to update the required files.

  • Download the appropriate compressed tar file for your platform:

    AIX: ims90-sp3-ibm.tar.Z (112 MB)
    HP-UX: ims90-sp3-hp.tar.Z (104 MB)

    1. Stop the ArcIMS Tasker, ArcIMS Monitor, and ArcIMS Application Server (in that order) or use the script $AIMSHOME/qs_scripts/stop_arcims.
    2. For AIX only, as root, run the slibclean command:

      #slibclean

    3. Copy the compressed service pack file (.Z file) to your AIMSHOME:

      %cp ims90-sp3-<platform>.tar.Z $AIMSHOME/.

    4. Uncompress the service pack file ims90-sp3-<platform>.tar.Z to get ims90-sp3-<platform>.tar :

      % uncompress ims90-sp3-<platform>.tar.Z

    5. Extract ims90-sp3-<platform>.tar to get ims90-sp3-<platform>_extract.tar and ims90-sp3-<platform>_backup.script;

      AIX: %tar -xvf ims90-sp3-ibm.tar
      HP-UX: %tar xvf ims90-sp3-hp.tar

    6. Backup your original files. This script or command will create ims90-sp3-<platform>_bak.tar which contains the ArcIMS 9.0 files the service pack will replace:

      AIX: %./ims90-sp3-ibm_backup.script
      HP-UX: %./ims90-sp3-hp_backup.script

    7. Check that your backup tar was created correctly and can be read:

      AIX: %tar -tvf ims90-sp3-ibm_bak.tar
      HP-UX: %tar tvf ims90-sp3-hp_bak.tar

    8. Extract the ims90-sp3-<platform>_extract.tar:

      AIX: %tar -xvf ims90-sp3-ibm_extract.tar
      HP-UX: %tar xvf ims90-sp3-hp_extract.tar

    9. After the tar extraction has finished, you will need to follow the uninstallation procedure found in the ArcIMS Install guide to remove deployed ESRI war files from your web-server/servlet engine . The war files that have been updated are:
      • advancedmetadataexplorer.war
      • arcimsservletconnector.war
      • esriadmin.war
      • metadataexplorer.war
      • jspsamples.war
      • jspviewer.war

    10. Run the ArcIMS Post Installation to re-deploy the arcimsservletconnector.war, esriadmin.war, or metadataexplorer.war. The post install command is <ArcIMS Installation Directory>/tools/SetupArcIMS_PostInstall.
      • Note: If your Web Server is not available as a selection in the Post Installation, please follow the manual instructions found in the ArcIMS Installation Guide to re-configure your web-server/servlet engine and to re-deploy ESRI war files. You will need to follow the uninstallation procedure found the in ArcIMS Install guide to remove deployed ESRI war files from your web-server/servlet engine before re-deployment. The war files that have been updated are:
        • advancedmetadataexplorer.war
        • arcimsservletconnector.war
        • esriadmin.war
        • metadataexplorer.war
        • jspsamples.war
        • jspviewer.war

    11. If using the jspsamples.war and jspviewer.war files, follow the instructions in the $AIMSHOME/Samples/Java/readme_samples.pdf file for deployment.
    12. If using the htmlviewer from Samples, you will need to update the htmlviewer in your website.

      %cp -r $AIMSHOME/Samples/Viewers/htmlviewer <Path to Website>/htmlviewer

See your ArcIMS Install Guide for further information on the htmlviewer.
    13. Start the ArcIMS Application Server, ArcIMS Monitor, and ArcIMS Tasker (in that order) or use the script $AIMSHOME/qs_scripts/start_arcims.
