  1. [digital image processing] An image transformation method that uses principal component analysis and a linear rotation of multispectral image bands to yield transformed bands. The index is commonly defined by categories of brightness, greenness, and wetness, and subsequent noise bands, such as clouds and haze. It is used especially in the analysis of vegetation growth cycles, soil characterization, and urban development. Also known as the Kauth-Thomas transformation.
